Independence Day Picks!
It's time to celebrate our nations independence with some good old fashion American cookouts.
What will you be drinking with your barbequed meats, cherry pie and all the yummy sides perfect for your fourth of July cookout?
I have chosen a few different wines that will go great with your 4th of July party, wherever you are celebrating! --- Of course all American wines :)
What will you be drinking with your barbequed meats, cherry pie and all the yummy sides perfect for your fourth of July cookout?
I have chosen a few different wines that will go great with your 4th of July party, wherever you are celebrating! --- Of course all American wines :)
- July is a hot month in most parts of the country, here in MD it's usually in the 90's! Choosing a nice refreshing white wine will go great with the hot weather that comes with July. The Chateau Ste Michelle Horse Heaven Vineyard 2016 Sauvignon Blanc (Washington) is a perfect choice! Ripe pear and citrus flavors, dry yet smooth. It's a fresh and vibrant wine that will go great with that fresh seafood and crisp veggies.
- How can you have a celebration without bubbles?! I picked up Jacqueline Leonne Methode Champenoise Brut for that perfect American (New Mexico --- "French Inspired, American Made") sparkling. A Brut style is always a great way to go because it's right in the middle on the sweetness scale. Everyone is likely to enjoy a glass. This particular sparkling is made in the traditional method, like Champagne. (75% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir) This brut has flavors of apple, lemon and tree flowers on the palate, round mouthfeel with a satisfying finish. Raise a glass America! ("POP, FIZZ, CLINK!")
- How could I be in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area and not get a bottle of wine from one of our Founding Fathers and America's first wine connoisseur..? Thomas Jefferson was the first to explore wine in the United states. Thank you Mr. Jefferson! Jefferson Vineyards continues Jefferson's dream of growing grape vines to this day. I chose Jefferson Vineyards 2016 Cabernet Franc. VA grows Cab Franc well and I love this one! Cherry, raspberry notes on the nose, same red fruits and some herbs on the palate, medium bodied with some white pepper spice.
- You can't forget to pick up a California Zinfandel. My go to is the Seghesio 2016 Sonoma Zinfandel. These grape vines are 90 years old. This Zinfandel has everything you want and need out of a California Zinfandel. Jammy and fruit forward with notes and flavors of plum, blackberry, some baking spices like nutmeg, and a long finish. Are you grilling meats this 4th of July? Of course you are! Well a California Zin is the perfect match to your grilled beef and poultry.
- Rose all day right? Having rose is always a great idea! But I picked up a few canned rose's for the pool. Are you hanging by the pool or the beach this 4th of July? Canned wines are the perfect alternative to carrying a glass bottle with you.
I hope this gave you plenty of ideas for your 4th of July get together. Happy 4th everyone! Stay safe and God Bless America.
